Event Details
For the first time, in 2018, Society for Cultural Anthropology’s Biennial Meeting will take place as a virtual conference. Mark your calendars for April 19-20-21, when Concordia Ethnography Lab will be holding the Montreal viewing node, where attendants will have a chance to get together and discuss the work presented on-site with other local participants. Removing the constraint of international travel that accompanies attendance to the conference, SCA conference provides the opportunity for exploring the virtual format, which allows broader geographical participation, while keeping up the ideal of carbon-neutral activity. SCA organizers are developing a web-based media platform that promotes explorations of different expressive forms in anthropology.
The virtual format is designed to provoke decentralized, affinity-based forms of participation and interaction, in the spirit of experimentation. This local node will participate by holding a viewing party and providing the Ethnography Lab space for discussions, networking, and collaborations to emerge.
The event is organized with the efforts of Ethnography Lab of Milieux Institute and will be open for participation of anthropology students from McGill University, Université de Montréal, and Concordia University.
The conference will start a plenary session scheduled for 4-6 PM on Thursday, April 19th, featuring new work by Jason De Leon, Stephanie Spray, Eduardo Kohn and Lisa Stevenson. The session will be viewed at the lab space (EV 10.625) and will be followed with a wine and cheese gathering, including keynote speakers Eduardo Kohn and Lisa Stevenson.
